We arrived in the town square at night, it was a beautiful site, busy and brightly lit. I had read about a small local bar serving over 100 of the best Belgian beers. The bar – Paters Vaetje – was tucked away behind the cathedral and was very small. Inside it was dimly lit, and busy, but the atmosphere was cheerful. Before we left we asked our waitress what beers she would recommend, so sweetly she wrote us down a list of her favourite beers and a little bit about each of them. In Antwerp we also discovered that chocolate and waffles weren’t the only Belgian foods that were popular, chips and mayonnaise is a big thing in Belgium!
