Are you and your significant other are thinking about going travelling together? Or perhaps even you and a close friend? Travelling with your best friend (be that partner or otherwise) is so rewarding! So if you’re just starting out, or you can’t decide who to go with, let us share with you what it’s like to travel as a couple.
Even before we were a couple we’d both always wanted to travel, but hadn’t got round to taking the leap. Having each other and sharing in our passion for travel, we gave each other the push we needed to pack our bags and go! When you travel with your partner one of the best parts about it is that you can push each other to keep going, to save more money, to try new things and to visit places you that might not have considered on your own. In fact, our first road trip had originally started out as driving around France, Spain and Portugal. As we began planning we pushed each other to go further and further into Europe.
What if you argue?
One of the main concerns when travelling with someone you’re so close to, is what happens if you argue? There will be times when you don’t always agree, that’s just part of being human! But when you’re on the road you take yourself away from the stresses of everyday life that can often lead to arguments. Plus when you find yourself distracted by all the amazing new things you’re experiencing, there’s really very little to argue about.
However, disagreements are inevitable, even if it’s something as silly as where to eat dinner that night. The important thing to learn is to let things slide. Hey, you’re on this amazing adventure together, and more often than not you’re in a new environment. So if you do begin to pick up on each other’s little ‘quirks’, just talk it out and move on. The last thing you want to do is look back on your time in an incredible place but have your memories ruined by the fact you happened to be bickering that day.
It really is the most rewarding experience
It also feels very safe having someone you trust with you as you embark on new adventures. The night before we left to get the ferry we were both so nervous, neither of us had ever done anything like this before! But it was so comforting knowing we were taking this huge step together. And depending on the type of person you are, you might need that little nudge every now and then to try new things, and that’s what friends are for! They say in life you regret the things you didn’t do, so it’s great to have someone there to help you do those things if you’re not feeling confident enough on your own.
For anyone considering travelling with their partner or best friend (these may be the same person!) it really is the greatest thing you can do. Exploring new places and cultures together and encouraging each other to try new things is such an exciting way to build on your relationship. The total freedom of only having to please yourselves means there are no outside distractions or expectations. These are the things that can weigh you down in everyday life. It means you can dedicate your time to each other and discovering everything the world has to offer.
