6 steps for a healthier mind, body and soul

Making the decision to change your lifestyle and start being healthier isn’t easy. After going vegan at the beginning of the year, I’ll be the first to admit I still find myself daydreaming about a bacon sandwich every now and then!

But looking after yourself is important for your mind, body and soul and there are so many small changes you can make to your daily life that really will have a big impact on your health. Here are just six small changes you can try if you want to start feeling better!

1. Take Time Away From Technology

As we are living in a digital age the likelihood is most of our spare time is spent staring at our phones or computer screens. It may be hard to cut down, especially if your job requires you to use a laptop like mind does. But taking time away from technology and social media can be incredibly beneficial for your mental health. 2. Eat a healthier diet

Eating a balanced diet is a great way to ensure you’re living a healthy lifestyle. But this doesn’t mean having to stick to a strict or ridiculous diet – I’ve certainly tried and failed at plenty of these in the past! The key to a healthy diet is listening to your body and finding out exactly what it needs in order to feel good. Oh and maybe cutting down on the chocolate and sugary snacks (we all have our weaknesses).

3. Practice self-care on a regular basis

Self-care is something everyone should be practising, especially those that are always on the go and living a busy life. Whether it’s reading a good book in the evening, having a relaxing bath after a long day or taking a yoga class, there are so many small ways you can practise self-care. Taking the time out to look after yourself is incredibly important for your mental health.

4. Cut down your alcohol intake

Whilst it may seem as though you don’t drink a lot of alcohol, even a couple of drinks a week counts as overdoing it. On an average week make note of what you drink and why and try to cut at least 50% of these out of your lifestyle. You’ll be surprised how much more alert and healthy you feel just by cutting out that mid-week glass of wine!

5. Cut the negativity from your life

Although it may seem obvious, spending time with the people you love is incredibly good for your mental health. Yet people often spend time with negative people that end up being toxic for them, so doing everything you can to cut those people out of your life will really help improve your overall mood. Although it can be hard, especially if they’ve played an important role in your life, it will be one of the best things you ever do.

6. Treat yourself every now and again

Although it may not seem as though it’s important for your health, treating yourself every now and again can do incredible things for your mental health. Whether you’re booking yourself a holiday or buying yourself some new clothes, allowing yourself those little joys in life is an incredible feeling.
