Why you should always take the chance – even if it doesn’t work out!

If someone said to you ‘would you like me to pay for you to travel the world for three months’, what would you say?

Most of you are probably thinking ‘hell yeah – I’ll go pack my bags!’

This is a job opportunity that I found online today – needless to say I have to apply, right?! The only catch is that to apply you have to submit a two minute video of your hometown.

Now Fleet, Hampshire is lovely, but it’s not the most exciting place in the world… So we’ll have to be very creative with this one.

Why am I telling you this? Because recently I’ve been seeing more of these ‘once in a life time’ travel experiences popping up online, and I’ve never felt confident enough to apply for them.

Maybe for fear of embarrassing myself or feeling disappointed if I don’t get it. But whatever the reason – that stops today!  And this got me thinking – here’s why you should always take a chance!

You never know what might happen

Many years ago my auntie said something to me that I’ve never forgotten. After buying a lottery ticket and commenting that the chances of me winning were extremely unlikely, she said to me ‘yeah, but you’ve got to be in it to win it’. And she was right!

You’ve got to take the chance, or you’ll never know! And no one ever achieved their goals by sitting back and hoping it would happen.

And it might pay off! Without taking that chance you would never have had the opportunity. And now you might find yourself one step closer to achieving your goals.

You’ll regret it if you don’t

You don’t want to look back at your life as a series of missed opportunities. And regret is such an ugly feeling, because sadly we can’t travel back in time and change the past.

The best way to avoid that is to just take the chance! That way you know you did everything you could, and it just didn’t work out. No regrets.

Learn from the experience

Each time you choose to take a leap of faith, no matter how big or small, you’ll learn from the experience. Even if it doesn’t work out.

And hey, if it doesn’t go to plan you haven’t failed. Because at least you tried! And with every set back you can learn something and improve next time.

Life is short

Life is too short to sit back and let good opportunities pass you by. They say life begins at the end of your comfort zone right? It’s all about pushing your own personal boundaries.

If you’re ever feeling unsure about whether or not you should chance it, remember, you only live once! Cliché – maybe. But so so true.

Prove to yourself you can do it

And more than anything, you should take the chance to prove to yourself that you can do it! That you can put yourself out there no matter what.

Sometimes taking the first step is the hardest part. Once you begin you’ll find it becomes easier. For me, it’s often the fear of the unknown. But once I’ve done it once, you often find it was never as hard or scary as you first thought it would be.
